My story...
Thanks for clicking on this link and allowing me to share more of my
story with you. I’m already wondering what your particular
need or health issue is, and I look forward to hearing your story as
well.
Well, like I said, after four years of living the fast-paced DC life, I
started to run out of steam. By Wednesday of every week I started
looking forward to the weekend...so I could SLEEP. Finally it struck me
that this
wasn’t exactly normal.
Then one day that winter I walked several blocks to meet my friends
serving dinner at a downtown shelter. On my way up the four flights of
stairs to the top floor, I
felt like I was climbing Mt Everest, growing
weaker and more exhausted and out of breath with every step. When I
barely made it to the top, I knew something was very wrong with my body.
I’d always taken my good health for granted. Of course I was
young, had good genes, had never experienced any sickness worse that
the stomach flu...why should my body not
just keep going?
I never gave a thought to listening to my body or trying to find out
what special things it might need to keep up with my lifestyle.
Like most things, you don’t know what you have til you lose
it. I went to my general practitioner, but all she could advise was
“exercise more and eat more protein.” I ran for an
hour that Saturday, and a half an hour that Sunday...and felt worse.
By the time I came back from Christmas vacation a few weeks later, I
was coming in to work later and later, couldn’t even sit at
my desk without feeling light-headed and flu-ish, and several times on
the metro I wondered how I was going to make it the four blocks to the
office.
If you have adrenal fatigue, you know exactly what I’m
talking about. The low blood sugar feeling, the flu-ish head throbbing,
and worst of all, that empty depleted
feeling
where you don't even have the strength to do normal daily functions.
If any of this sounds familiar but you are not in a full-blown case of
adrenal fatigue, praise God! There is hope for turning your body around
before
you hit the bottom. And yes,
you want to do everything you can NOW to fix your body, because the
weaker it gets (and the older you are), the longer it will take to
regain your strength and vitality. I speak as a 30-something after over
two years of this.
Anyway, I regained much of my strength though doing exactly what books
and my naturopath doctor
told me to do (though I really had to be my
own doctor), and through changing my lifestyle and thought patterns,
through cutting out stress and working part-time jobs vs fulltime, and
through nutritional
supplements. Like I said,
these helped me tremendously (and they should have, after spending so
much money on them...on a part time salary!).
Last fall I was feeling much better, after getting married and quitting
my job and moving out of the city. But it was still taking so long to
fully recover. Then my chiropractor introduced me to my “magic
juice” as I call
it. She gave me a CD, which talked about what was IN the
product...which caught my attention because other supplements
didn’t seem to emphasize that, or even reveal it. The first
day I tried it, I could not go to sleep that night til after 2:30 am!
But it wasn’t like I was wired. I just had more energy, and
my body was thrilled to be getting the nutrients it craved.
After a couple of weeks I realized that I was feeling
“normal” during the day, throughout the whole day
(no 3:00 slump). I could run as many errands as I needed to without
rationing my activity or eating tons of snacks just to keep myself
going or getting plain exhausted. You don’t realize how great normal
feels until you haven’t felt it for two years!
Your story
Even though I've tried to explain how I felt with adrenal fatigue, it
was hard to put it into words even for myself, even for my journal or
blog. That depleted feeling defies explanation, because it's just so
not "normal." Only those who have felt it can truly understand. If you
need someone to talk to, I am here.
